this week was really good and i wanna tell you guys about it so buckle up!
○ there was a fire in Carmen! ahhhh! noone was harmed thakfully but the town was going absolutely haywire. We don't have a fire department so basically everyone that had a car was just bringing any water they had and frantically dumping it on the fire. I think uruguay is in a drought because people keep sending color-coded charts in the rama group chat and the whole country is bright red. most of the people here are farmers and droughts are not good for farms so we're praying for rain!
○I thought I would give you guys a little rundown of Carmen:
-people eat pasta, rice, and tortas fritas. Also there's a lot of pizza and hot dogs, weirdly. And the only condiments are mayonnaise and dulce de leche. I'm pretty lucky as far as mission food goes but if I come home sick of pasta I won't know what to do with myself.
-cowboys: instead of flannels and jeans and boots they wear balloon pants, keds, and beret-like hats called boinas(??). But they have horses and cows and all the other cowboy things.
- we're famous! Not really but everyone knows where we live and where we run in the mornings which is weird because I've never seen anyone watching us walk home or run. So I don't really know how all the information gets around.
○ this week we had a couple very swag experiences where we felt we should visit some ppl and then when we did they told us they'd been having a really hard day and prayed for help. We were able to be answers to their prayers! These experiences really strengthen my testimony that the Spirit can work through us.
○ our friend juan gabriel got baptized! Something you need to know about JG is that he looooves soccer, specifically one of the two popular teams in uruguay called Peñarol. We're talking multiple tattoos, flag outside of his house-- biiiiig fan. So hna israelsen and thought we would surprise him and wear black and yellow, the colors of the team, for his baptism! We showed up to his house that morning all excited and all he said was that they'd lost the day before. So basically we just rubbed it in. But anyways the baptism was really good, all the strong members of the rama went and they were really excited to have a new member!
○ I'm happy here! I don't like that I'm sweaty all the time and always have youth album music in my head. And I miss my family and friends so much that sometimes I feel like I'm missing a vital organ. But I've developed so much love for the people of Carmen! When I first got here I think the feelings I had for them could best be described as fond frustration, but now I leave every charla and turn to my comp and go "i love them!!"
○ I met a love witch! ok actually she was a witch of a lot of things but she said mostly she helps people in their love lives. her husband was a good 15 years younger than her and kinda looks like Stanley Tucci so I'm not saying she knows her stuff buuuut...yeah. she showed us all her candles and stuff and was really nice, we're gonna go back sometime soon, so give me advice on what to teach a witch!

Hi Jorja. Grandpa and I are loving your letters. I loved how everyone brought water from their homes to put out the fire. It is hard for me to imagine their plight, but how wonderful for you to be so involved with Heavenly Father's children in Uruguay. We did love talking with you and being a part of your time with your family each week. I can see how helpful and natural it is to talk with your family. I spoke to David just once on his mission. He was being wheeled in for an emergency appendectomy and he was excited. It gave grandpa and I overwhelming anxiety about the medical care in Thailand. We never heard a thing until three weeks later when we received his letter. Times have changed for the better!
ReplyDeleteLorri has been here to care for Kaitlyn and her new baby boy. He is very cute - looks like Cameron- and is big like Cameron. He weighed 8lbs and 8 ounces and loves to eat.
Your dad sent a quick video of his latest clearing of the driveway. I simply cannot believe their snow. We watched your brothers ski off the hill and then I rode down in the truck with your dad to pick them up on the road below. We asked your mom if she would have bought the house if she knew how much snow there would be, A huge smile flashed on her face as she answered, YES!!
We pray for your continued and deepened love for the people as you teach and serve them, and for your continued growth in love of the Savior and his gospel. We will be doing the same as grandpa and I study and pray together. Love gandma Leslie
